About this product
This lovely room-size Persian carpet has a plush pile with a very pretty repeating floral design. There is a sparkling array of colours, including a terracotta background, pinks, greens, various light blues and a sapphire blue border. The border is very well-designed and would look great around a dining table. The overall impression is quite formal, but like many Mahal carpets from this period, the palmettes and other details are quite angular which gives the carpet a more ‘relaxed’ feel. It has survived the generations in very good condition, the pile being worn evenly. The selvages are original and intact, as are the the ends. There are no old repairs. Professionally cleaned in our workshop and ready for immediate use.
About
Mahal rugs are produced in the town of Mahallat, located in the Arak (Markazi) Province of west central Iran. The rug weaving industry in the region can be traced back for centuries. Due to the location of Mahallat, the area rugs have a Kurdish influence as well as a Turkish influence. The fact that Mahal rugs feature both tribal and curvilinear designs can be directly attributed to the fact that Mahallat is located between the cities of Arak and Delijan. Skilled artisans may use either the Turkish or Persian knot, depending on the particular styles of area rugs that they are weaving.
