This attractive Karabagh rug features a pomegranate blossom lattice design, symbolising prosperity, and fertility, usually found in the earlier pieces of the 18th Century. The muted chocolate brown field has a delicate abrash – or, colour variation – which adds a great sense of depth and character to the otherwise stripped-back, monochrome drawing, framed by a wide border.
This early Karabagh rug is in good practical condition for everyday use. The vegetable-dyed colours in its palette have taken on a fine, age related patina.
A sophisticated tribal piece, which would make a welcome addition to a variety of spaces.
