Fine Persian Veramin Carpet, c. 1900s
Antique Veramin carpets are widely recognized as among the most exceptional Persian workshop weavings, best known for their remarkable quality, fine crisp drawings and wide variety of rich vegetable-dyed colours, as well as the characteristic designs that set these carpets apart from those from the neighboring regions.
This example is an exquisite workshop weaving of the early 20th Century, with a rare burnt ochre field. The creative overall pattern is well-balanced and complimented by a wide, elephant grey border. The wide palette of vegetable-dyed colours in its composition have taken on a charming patina with age, and lend the carpet a feeling of understated grace – the tones include shades of duck-egg blue, muted tan and sage green.
