Antique 19th Century rare pair of Georgian Solid Silver cast candlesticks, each on a shaped circular base cast with scrolls, flowers and waterfalls in very high relief, the conforming knopped baluster stem also embellished with flowers and scrolls, detachable nozzles also embellished with leaves and flowers. Each base is engraved with a family crest. The two candlesticks and nozzles are numbered respectively “2” and “4”.
The pair is extremely rare, heavy (nearly one kilo each) and impressive, stunning Rococo style in the manner of the candlesticks by Paul de Lamerie.
Both bases and nozzles are Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), London, year 1815 (U), Maker’s mark EF for Edward Farrell, one of the greatest English silversmiths of all time, known for his incredibly decorative sculptural pieces, richly chiselled and cast, re-inventing interpretations of 17th and 18th Century revival styles, such as Rococo and the Teniers style, inspired by Dutch paintings.
