Danish furniture designer Kristian Illum Wikkelsö believed that furniture should be built to last, to indulge the body and to please the eye. He graduated as cabinetmaker in 1940 and after 3 years at the Technical Society School and Danish School of Arts & Crafts he established his own company in Aarhus. Illum’s design was founded in artisanship, from a generation of cabinetmakers, upholsterers and furniture producers established before the 1950s.
