About this product
A relatively typical design in the early to mid-19th century these chairs are in the French Empire taste which was most popular at the time, with the added benefit of being much more sturdy and practical than the English Regency Chaise Lounges and similar were being produced in this period.
They are very good quality however and it is nice that they are constructed from mahogany, rather than a softer, less dense wood which may have worn significantly my now. They are very comfortable, very practical and in excellent condition, ready to be placed into a whole host of different positions and uses around the home.
The Empire style (French pronunciation: [ɑ̃.piːʁ], style Empire) is an early-nineteenth-century design movement in architecture, furniture, other decorative arts, and the visual arts, representing the second phase of Neoclassicism. It flourished between 1800 and 1815 during the Consulate and the First French Empire periods, although its life span lasted until the late-1820s. From France it spread into much of Europe and the United States.
