About this product
This is a stunning, handpainted vintage Queen Anne reproduction cocktail cabinet, constructed in the 1960’s and made of solid hardwood.
Meticulous preparation forms the basis of my creative process. Function is as important to me as form and everything works exactly as it should, ready for the next lifetime…I have used black chalkpaint over a red primer to create an antique, textured finish which has then been protected by black wax for extra durability.
The application of the protective wax also enhances the antique texture of the paint which I was striving for.
Artistic influences are Utamaro for the classical Japanese style of visual representation, with Gustave Klimt providing the design aesthetic.
The gold interior is decorated with handpainted random fragments of poetry in classic calligraphy from the Edo period in Japanese history (1603-1868). Koi carp – auspicious fish in Japanese culture – in gold leaf gilding complete the interior scheme.
A unique statement piece, entirely original and entirely handpainted to my own design.
