About this product
We obtained this necklace as part of a larger private collection of Christian Dior jewellery from France.
The use of graduated heliotrope briolette beads, clear oval aurora borealis faceted beads and aurora borealis drop crystals is typical of the design and construction of costume necklaces from the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Such pieces were created and manufactured in West Germany following the end of the War. Christian Dior often sourced his costume jewellery from ateliers such as Francis Winter, Roger Scemama and Roger Jean Pierre, but also from manufacturers in Western Germany, prior to his long-standing collaboration with Henkel and Grosse.
Such pieces were often not signed.
The aurora borealis crystal drops are seen in several Dior pieces and were created originally for the exclusive use of Christian Dior by Swarovski in 1956.
